Multi-mode meter - smart lite

The Government has committed the industry to the installation of smart meters to every domestic property within the UK by 2020, but technology standards and operating models are not yet fully defined.

Prepayment meters are likely to be initial targets for the installation of smart meters. However, the energy suppliers are reticent to install smart meters until the technology standards and operating models are fully defined. In the interim, any new meter installations, especially prepayment meters, and the 5% of meters that need to be replaced annually, are likely to have a limited ‘wall life’ which makes them economically unattractive to the meter asset owner.

Our smart lite proposition addresses those issues.

Smart lite is:

• A modular meter that provides the required prepayment functionality today, but can be upgraded in situ to meet future functional requirements;
• A modular meter that can be upgraded to support future technology standards;
• A meter that is MID certified is suitable for UK domestic use and is available now;
• A meter that includes as standard a GPRS WAN module.

The smart lite meter is communicated to, remotely configured and managed by the SMOS lite application.

SMOS lite is delivered as a managed service and for which a service charge is made. Smart lite includes a commercial model that reduces risk and the total cost of ownership.

The target market for the smart lite proposition is meter asset owners who have to replace or install new prepayment meters in the period before the national smart metering infrastructure is in place.
